UTR Code Guide

A Unique Taxpayer Reference number (UTR) is a 10-digit code that uniquely identifies you or your business.

Depending on whether you incorporated your company through GetGround or incorporated it elsewhere, you can get your UTR code by following the instructions below.

Incorporating your company through GetGround

Generally, HMRC will issue your UTR code within 3-4 weeks after your company incorporation. This may be faster or slower depending on how busy HMRC are. As soon as we receive your code in the post, we will upload it to your company dashboard so that you have access to it whenever you need it.

Bringing your company onto GetGround's platform

When your company was incorporated, HMRC would have sent your UTR code via post to your company's registered address. The best thing to do at this stage is to double check your records to see whether you've received that letter.

You may also find your UTR code by:

  • checking your business tax account - if you have already registered for online tax services, your UTR code will be attached to your profile
  • checking other letters from HMRC - you may have received a reminder to file a Corporation Tax Return, or you may be able to find the UTR on a previous Tax Return that you've filed

If you're still unable to find the UTR code, you can request it again by submitting a request through HMRC's website. You will just need your company's registration number and your registered company name.  HMRC will then send you your UTR code via post.
